Inspiration is Like Food for Our Spirit

Sources of Inspiration come in all shapes and sizes, but one thing they have in common is the ability to touch us at the heart and soul level of our being.

With all the news these days feeding our personal and national anxieties, it is vitally important to take time to notice things that inspire us.

This page is planned to be a "catch all" of the quotes, videos, pictures, and anything else that comes to my attention that I find inspiring.

I sincerely hope you find inspiration here, too.

Interview with God

Here is a short but beautiful video called Interview with God. The photography is truly breathtaking, and the sentiments are thought provoking. Take 60 seconds or so and feel a sense of wonder.

Quietness by Doran

Here is a poem I've carried around with me since I was a teenager (at least 100 years ago!) It never fails to soothe and reassure me. I hope you like it, too.

Quietness

"Be still and know that I am God,"

That I who made and gave thee life

will lead thy faltering steps aright;

That I who see each sparrow's fall

will hear and heed thy earnest call.

I am God.

"Be still and know that I am God,"

When aching burdens crush thy heart

then know I form thee for thy part

and purpose in the plan I hold.

Trust in God.

"Be still and know that I am God,"

Who made the atom's tiny span

and set it moving to My plan,

That I who guide the stars above

will guide and keep thee in My love.

Be thou still.

~ Doran

Guideposts Magazines

Another terrific source of inspiring stories of real people (yep, just like us!) are the magazines printed by the Guideposts organization. The stories are real, touching, and a terrific encouragement when the challenges and stresses of life are getting us down.

Here is the link to their website where you can find stories about families, pets, angels, and more. (FYI: it will open a new page on your browser.) Take a look and see what you think of Guideposts Magazine's website.

Susan Jeffers

Have you ever noticed how sometimes the perfect book for your needs just falls off the shelf at the bookstore?

For me, one of the most life changing of these books was written by Susan Jeffers and is titled Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway. So many times we hesitate to try something new because of the fear and anxiety we feel about it; but, as Susan explains so clearly, anxiety will inevitably be a part of doing anything new! And when we recognize that fact, we are inspired to push through our temporary discomfort and "do it anyway."

This is hugely helpful in liberating us from worrying that our anxiousness is trying to tell us not to try something.

Susan has a website well worth visiting anytime you need a little inspiration. She has daily affirmations and quotes, newsletters, articles, stories from other people about how they felt the fear and did it anyway, as well as free downloads.

Here is the link to open a new tab with her January article: Susan Jeffers article. I hope her insight and wisdom inspire you to follow what has heart and meaning for you, too!
